Ancillary Products

Ancillary benefits are secondary health insurance benefits that cover miscellaneous medical expenses that may come up during your stay at a medical facility. Ancillary products may also include supplementary insurance plans, such as critical illness insurance, vision insurance, dental insurance, and life insurance.

If you are curious about ancillary products and what they have to offer you, this is what you need to know.

What Are Ancillary Products?

Any products that offer coverage options in addition to your main insurance can be considered ancillary insurance products. In most cases, the primary insurance you will be purchasing is major health insurance. The ancillary insurance product would be any insurance plan you purchase in addition to that primary plan.

There are many types of ancillary insurance products, including:

Dental Insurance

Dental insurance provides beneficiaries with coverage that they can use to pay for dental services. Most plans have a specific network of service providers that their members are allowed to see, and the type of plan you choose will determine which providers you have access to. Dental insurance plans are typically inexpensive, ranging from $10 a month to $100 a month.

Vision Insurance

As you age, your eyes may become strained due to overuse or exposure to light or pollution. Vision insurance can help you get routine vision care and prescription eyewear, ensuring that your vision remains healthy for as long as possible. If you are considering buying a plan, vision insurance typically costs around $10-$50.

Critical Illness Insurance

Critical illness insurance is an ancillary insurance product that offers beneficiaries coverage that will pay out a lump sum cash benefit if you are diagnosed with a covered condition. The covered conditions are typical critical conditions that require expensive procedures to treat. Common illnesses covered under critical illness insurance policies include strokes, heart attacks, and cancer. Other conditions may be covered, but you should check with your plan provider to determine if the condition you are concerned about is included in your preferred plan.

Cancer, Heart Attack, and Stroke

If you suffer from any of these critical illnesses, the bills could be tremendously expensive. With a cancer, heart attack, and stroke policy, you can gain peace of mind knowing that you will have the finances needed to fight off an unexpected diagnosis.
